Inaugural Event Crowns Winners

The inaugural Drowned Island Challenge took place on Anegada the weekend of June 7 and 8. Six events took place over two days - two runs, two swims, a paddleboard race and a Beach Beer mile. Competitors from Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and the BVI took part.

 

BVI residents Oscar McCall and Kitty Daniels took the overall Poseidon and Amphitrite awards for the top performances in the five qualifying races which didn’t include the Beach Beer Mile. There were individual awards for the top male and female runners, swimmers, and paddlers.

A two-day multisport event on the island of Anegada in the British Virgin Islands

Two days of running, swimming, and paddleboarding races, with beach parties and plenty of down-time for family fun too!

Runs: Day 1 - 12k Run | Day 2 - 7k Run

Two days, two running races: first day, 12k, sand road and beach, 3k sections, loops between Cow Wreck Beach and Anegada Beach Club; day two, 7k, concrete and sand roads, Lobster Trap to Anegada Beach Club.

Swims: Day 2 - 1.2k Swim | Day 2 - 850m Swim

Two days, two swims: first day, 1.2k, a two loop triangle with beach sprints between laps and for the finish; day two, a 850m downwind sprint, with one turn mark and beach sprint finish.

Day 1 - Downwind Paddleboard Race 4k

A sunset 4K downwind paddleboard race finishing at The Lobster Trap with a beach sprint.

Day 2 - Beach Beer Mile

To finish the event for 400m loops with a beer before the start and each subsequent lap.  Good times.
